Housing costs in Houston are relatively affordable compared to other major cities


According to Numbeo, a website that tracks the cost of living in cities around the world, the average monthly rent for a one-bedroom apartment in Houston is around $1,200, while the average monthly rent for a two-bedroom apartment is around $1,500. These prices are significantly lower than in cities like New York, San Francisco, and Los Angeles.

The cost of groceries and transportation in Houston is also relatively affordable. For example, a gallon of milk costs around $2.50, a loaf of bread costs around $2.90, and a dozen eggs cost around $2.50. The cost of gasoline is also relatively low, with the average price per gallon around $2.60 as of April 2023.

Healthcare costs in Houston are also lower than in many other cities. Houston is home to the Texas Medical Center, the largest medical complex in the world, which offers world-class healthcare services
